Bespoke Foot Orthotics & Biomechanical Assessments.

  • I trained undergraduate and went on to lecture in Foot Orthotics, Lower Limb Biomechanics, in Podiatry, at The London Foot Hospital.
  • Lectured fourth year medical students UCL at Middlesex Hospital, St Pancras Hospital in Biomechanical Assessments for legs.
  • I have now assessed over 10,000 people for feet, leg and lower back biomechanical problems. With the view of help using supportive and shock absorbing orthotics.

Foot Orthotics

Many of these people are direct referrals from Orthopaedic Surgeons, doctors and Paediatricians and I can say that each and everyone of us are all different and compensate differently in the way we stand and walk and run. For the vast majority of people my object is to keep the feet accurately straight, using orthotics and when a person begins to get tired, they will put more pressure onto the orthotics and they will still keep the person straight.

I carry out biomechanical assessments where the ranges of motion of the feet, ankles, knees and hips are assessed to know how a person moves during motion. If during motion, walking or running, the foot eg rolls in, this is compensated by the body, by the leg internally rotating from the hips. Over time, this can often produce symptoms, pains within the ankle, knee, hip or lower back pains, all caused from turning in of the feet (pronation).

I have carried out assessments for orthopaedic surgeons, doctors for 22 years to find and hold each foot in its most efficient position, using BESPOKE HANDMADE ORTHOTICS to PREVENT and RESOLVE INJURIES.

When teaching and lecturing in orthotics and biomechanics at The London Foot Hospital this gave me a wide experience of foot orthotic materials and their beneficial uses in preventing and resolving injuries.  I have lectured at UCL to medical students of UCH, Middlesex and St Pancras Hospitals in using orthotics in foot, knee, hip and lower back symptoms and the use of orthotics for children especially hypermobility.

I have considerable experience within the NHS and private practice where I use and prescribe orthotics for orthopaedic consultants, doctors and many professionals allied to medicine. No referral letter is necessary before arranging an appointment.

"...THE ORTHOTICS I PRESCRIBE ARE BESPOKE AND MADE TO THE EXACT SHAPE OF EACH FOOT, USING THE MOST ADVANCED AND SUITABLE MATERIALS AVAILABLE."

Graduated from The London Foot Hospital with Clinical Distinction (one of only three awarded in year)

Clinical Research in Orthotics

Many studies have shown inrolling of feet, low arches, flat feet (pronation) leads to increased stresses on joints higher in the body particularly, knees, hips and the lower back.

MADE FOR
  • Increased foot pronation, low arches, flat feet
  • To reduce internal leg rotation ( for knees and hip pains )
  • Resistant plantar fasciitis ( using the best researched cushioning materials )
  • Resistant achilles tendinopathy
  • Knee pains, particularly anteromedial caused by increased internal leg pronation
  • Lower back pain, lumbar, sacral, to reduce heel strike forces, straighten alignment

  • For runners, sports. I have made for fun runners, club, national, Olympic level. Test cricketers, England, Australia, India (bowlers and batsmen). National Hockey, National Squash, Royal Ballet, World Champion Boxer.

  • For Children, for hypermobility, inrolling, intoeing, outoeing, Severes Disease, I have made many orthotics for Paediatricians from Great Ormond Street for severe deformities.

Andrew Root is covered for many private insurance policies.

Andrew is confident of being able to help approximately 99% of patients regarding foot injury awareness, foot orthotics and biomechanical assessments.

Ethical Materials Sourced

The orthotic materials I use and choose are in many different densities and materials. Many give a combination of support together with excellent shock absorbancy. To give the best individual material to each individual person, for their specific condition.

Foot podiatry biomechanics involve stopping the feet rolling in or out using bespoke foot orthotics. Bespoke orthotics correct body alignment and improve shock absorption. The orthotics are manufactured, normally within two weeks using the very best materials available.

The foot orthotics are made from scanning or taking plaster mold's of each foot to capture the exact shape of each foot and fit and is therefore accurate, ensuring correct angle and maximum shock absorption.

I store each pair of casts for five years, so that they can be used in the future (a very big storage room) so a person can just call for repeat, pairs of orthotics.
PODIATRY ORTHOTICS:

Foot podiatry orthotics are used in the treatment of many body problems such as, foot problems like, in rolling feet, (pronation) which is often connected with other pain symptoms like, ankle injuries, knee pains, hip conditions and back pains.

In assessment both feet are checked in a 'Podiatrists Biomechanical Assessment' in both standing, sitting and non weight bearing and walking positions. Alignment is measured and how pressure is transferred into the feet, and through to the ankles, knees, hips and back. This together with plaster casting of feet, or scanning takes around 40 - 45 minutes.
